EmoTrance is a very effective therapeutic way of resolving painful emotions such as anger, fear and sadness. These emotions can be felt in your body as often overwhelming discomfort. We can get furious, depressed, scared, insecure, jealous, stressed or sad in many situations – but we don’t have to continue to put up with this. These feelings can be experienced when someone has been through a traumatic experience such as an accident, burglary, assault, mugging etc., and common life experiences such as bereavement, divorce, difficult relationships with spouses, relatives, friends or work colleagues, being sacked or made redundant. These painful emotions, especially the ones which are being felt over and over again, usually have their roots in much earlier experiences which we may have forgotten. So when you feel bad, and you consider it an inappropriate feeling in the circumstances and ask yourself why you are feeling this way, you are probably feeling all those old unresolved emotions from the past as well as the present upset.

Now, the good news is that with EmoTrance these feelings in your body are all you need to be aware of in therapy – these are the basic unit of your experience. You can think of them as old energy that just got stuck in your body. These painful feelings contain all the history of the problem – so no digging into the past, no analysis or understanding of the problem is necessary. When these feelings are attended to in the EmoTrance way, instead of ignoring them or trying to control them, they can resolve themselves naturally and digest and leave your body taking the problem with them. Most people have tried to control their feelings in different ways and found it doesn’t really work very well or lastingly.

In a typical EmoTrance session, all the information I need as the therapist is where you feel the bad feelings in your body. When you have located them, I explain that these feelings can be thought of as trapped energy which was generated in the past and they do not belong in the present. I invite you to connect with them, and sense how they feel, then I ask you to think about how this trapped energy could soften (it usually feels quite hard) and flow out of your body, without trying to make anything happen at all. This allows the energy to digest and process naturally and effortlessly. Clients are usually surprised at how the energy has a “mind of its own” and left to its own devices does move and change and leave the body, taking the problem with it.

Resolution of a problem can happen quite quickly and usually one or two sessions can be all is needed to resolve an emotional issue. If you experience EmoTrance in therapy you are learning this valuable method as a self-help technique which you can call upon in the future. I use EmoTrance myself when I need to and recently freed myself from rage, which I had always thought was not a very nice way to feel and hindered my self development. The energy of rage was in my chest and very hot and big in size and active. When I focussed on it, after a while it went down to my stomach and then finally up to my head where it exited. Great, I thought. A short while later the same stimulus for the rage re-occurred and I felt it again. I repeated the same EmoTrance process but as the energy went up to my head it stopped at my throat for a short while, went up to my forehead, stopped briefly, then went up to the top of my head and went out. I have not had rage since! I do know when I do not like something (which could have resulted in the rage in the past) but this is a mild feeling like a message, and dissipates, leaving me able to decide whether I wish to react or not – a very empowering position to be in!
