Life Balance and Life Coaching

Life Balance & Life Coaching

Liz Cleves provided this case study of life coaching:

M contacted me having seen my life coaching web site. She explained that she felt that she was at a crossroads in her life. She was unable to see clearly how certain aspects of her life could be held in balance. From what she had read about my way of working, she felt a resonance with her current needs. I gained the impression of someone who was very ‘together’ and forward thinking….in fact, a good candidate for life coaching.

M had been an authoress and scriptwriter and as such her life had been pretty much uninterrupted as a single person. However, since developing family and domestic commitments she felt a renewed drive to develop her life as a writer alongside her current domestic and family life. She emphasised to me that both aspects of her life had their own importance.

• M envisaged developing a consistent view of her life as a writer that would ensure that her personal and writing life were both in a comfortable balance
• She wanted to get into good practical routines that would enable her to write purposefully and regularly
• She wanted to work towards, and see, the publication of key pieces of her work

M was able to identify ways in which she could write and have a happy family set-up. This included:

• organising her life through setting and achieving writing and personal goals that would enable her to make realistic progress
• enlisting the support of family members
• restructuring her daily and weekly timetable
• identifying the practical steps she must take to get work onto the publisher’s desk

M has continued, throughout this period of development, to arrange periodic coaching meetings with me. (These have always been timed to match to her specific needs). During the meetings she has been able to review her progress and set new goals.

This approach has helped her to stay on track and keep her life in balance. Her current book is now at the final drafting stage and she is looking forward to getting funding that will enable her to begin some new writing projects. Her need for life coaching sessions has changed. Most noticeable is her confidence in her own ability to keep on track and maintain her own momentum. She no longer requires regular life coaching sessions but envisages the need for occasional ‘top up’ sessions that will help her to maintain focus and continuity as a writer.
