Measles Symptoms And Treatment

Measles Information - Symptoms And Treatment by Genie Rowson

What is measles?

Many children are affected by a severe and very contagious viral infection during childhood called measles.

How is measles spread?

Measles is spread very easily from person to person, when droplets of the virus are circulated through the air from an infected person coughing or sneezing. Another person then breathes in the virus and may become infected.

What are the symptoms of measles?

The symptoms of measles usually begin to develop about 7-11 days after the person first becomes infected. The first symptoms are normally similar to those of the common cold: fever, runny nose, sore throat and a cough. A few days later a bright red, blotchy rash breaks out on the forehead, face and neck.
Within a few days the rash spreads to the body, arms and legs, by which time the rash will begin to fade from the face. When the rash breaks out, you may also develop conjunctivitis. Is measles contagious? Yes, measles is highly contagious. Once you have had measles you will develop an immunity to it and will not contract it again.

How is measles treated?

As measles is a virus, there is no CONVENTIONAL treatment to cure the infection. However, homeopathic remedies administered as soon as symptoms appear will soothe the fever and discomfort, boost the overall immune system and speed up recovery. Resting and drinking plenty of fluids will help you to feel better.

Homeopathic remedies to consider for measles:

Belladonna
Fever that comes on rapidly, with a red flushed face, hot skin, dilated eyes that are sensitive to light, and a throbbing headache that is worse from jarring are all indications for this remedy. The rash is red and may be hot to touch. Many children needing Belladonna have nightmares during fever and talk or cry out when apparently asleep.

Euphrasia
When this remedy is indicated during measles, the eyes are swollen, streaming, and very sensitive to light. The tears can irritate the face, and the person's nose may run with a bland and watery discharge. Headache may intensify with fever. The person has chills, feels worse from warmth, and prefers to stay in a darkened room.

Gelsemium
A drowsy, lethargic feeling with fever, droopy eyes, and shaking chills running up and down the spine are strong indications for this remedy. The rash is itchy, hot, and dry. A headache that begins in the back of the head and neck is often seen when Gelsemium is needed.

Rhus tox
An extremely itchy rash that feels better from applying heat may indicate a need for this remedy. The person is very restless, and may feel driven to get up and pace. Stiffness may be felt in all the muscles of the body, worse at night, from lying still in bed, and on waking in the morning. The person may have chills along with fever, and all symptoms are improved by warmth and motion.

All these remedies are available from health shops, homeopathic pharmacies, There's a remedy for that! agents nationwide (South Africa) and online from www.theresaremedyforthat.com. Note, all homeopathic remedies can be used as a preventative measure to boost the person's resistance and overall immunity to bacterial, viral and fungal infections, and are highly effective when used at the very first sign of symptoms.

Practical tips - Storing your homeopathic remedies

It is very important that potentised solutions - like all medicines - are stored correctly. Here are some storage tips:
  • Bathroom cupboards are out - bathrooms provide an ideal damp climate for fungal spores and bacteria and these will contaminate medicines - particularly with a black type of fungus.
  • After initial use, the remedy should be discarded if it is not used up within three months.
  • Homeopathic remedies should not be stored in car boots for any length of time.
  • If the spray nozzle is removed for any reason there is a good chance of introducing contamination.
  • Heat of any type or source should be avoided.
  • Storing homeopathic remedies close to electric motors, or electronic devices must be avoided. Apart from interfering with the properties of the medicine, these devices can give off heat which will affect the homeopathoc remedy and also encourage bacterial/fungal growth.
•    Similarly excessive cold should be avoided.
•    Energised solutions cannot contain preservatives or anti bacterials and are therefore susceptible to contamination. We therefore manufacture them under strict microbe-free conditions.
