Natalie, aged 43 consulted me for treatment of her chronic migraines - she was suffering from one every month and would have to go to bed for 48 hours when they appeared - nothing seemed to relieve them.
I took details of a her symptoms and noted that there seemed to be a link between the migraines and Natalie's menstrual cycle with the headaches appearing a few days before each period. They had been worse since Natalie had a progesterone contraceptive coil fitted, and her periods had diminished to virtually nothing.
After further discussion, it emerged that the migraines had first started when Natalie was about 13 and suffered from an eating disorder. I tried to get a picture from her of the sort of person she was as a teenager and what the circumstances were that resulted in her eating disorder. It transpired that she felt unloved at home and "never good enough" for her parents. She expended a great deal of energy trying to make herself more appealing to her family and one of those ways was trying to be thin.
I gave Natalie a remedy based upon her description of the 13 year old Natalie, as this is when the migraines started. Two months later, she said she had suffered no headaches at all, and also noticed that her periods were closer to a normal flow (as a homeopath I consider this to be a beneficial sign, as monthly menstruation is a natural way for the body to cleanse itself).
A month later Natalie rang me, saying she felt she had a migraine coming on. I asked if anything was happening in her life and it seemed she was having some relationship issues, which could have triggered the migraine. I gave her the same remedy again and she called me a week later to say that the headache had come to nothing and she was feeling much better. Another three months on, and there has been no reoccurence of the migraines.
Homeopathy is a great therapy for treating the cause of problem, even if that cause is several decades in the past. Homeopaths often focus on what was going on for a client when their symptoms started to appear and there is frequently a link between an event or situation and the beginning of a particular complaint.
