Sensible Weight Loss

Sensible Weight Loss Help by Jane Thurnell-Read

What you won’t find here is a miracle cure – just sensible advice, much of which you probably already know. But knowing something isn’t the same as applying it, so if this is already familiar to you ask yourself why you aren’t making these necessary changes in attitude and behaviour.

Forbidden Food
Labelling some food as forbidden makes it much more attractive and harder to resist.

Want To Lose Weight?
Accepting yourself as you are is necessary before you can change. Self-hatred makes you feel bad and reduces your ability to make positive changes.

Check Your Stomach
Before you eat, check if you're really hungry (in your stomach) or just eating because you're bored, out of habit, etc.

Cravings
Clean your teeth whenever you get cravings. It can help.

Dieting?
Aim to be the last to finish. If you slow down your eating, you'll eat less.

Chromium
An American study showed that 90% of diets were at least slightly deficient in the important mineral chromium. Chromium helps maintain correct blood sugar levels and can reduce cravings.

Burning Calories As Fat
Moderate exercise will burn a higher percentage of calories as fat than higher intensity exercise, BUT, as it's a percentage of a smaller number, overall you burn more calories as fat from higher intensity exercise.

Exercise
The key with exercise is firstly to make it fun. If you don't pick an activity you like, it isn't going to work for you.

Fast Weight Loss
Fast weight loss is not always the best weight loss. Losing weight bit-by-bit means you are more likely to keep it off. The Centers For Disease Control say: “The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight isn't about short-term dietary changes. It's about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses.”

Motivation To Eat Well
Put a photo of a dress you want to get into by the fridge or biscuit/cookie tin.

Food Diary
Several studies have shown that keeping a food diary helps people to lose weight.

Eaten Something You Shouldn't?
Just because you mess up once doesn't mean you should quit! You're only human. Don't let one small slip keep you derailed. (Kim Lyons)
