If you suffer from personal problems of the mind, trauma, or stress, they are handled every day by experienced, qualified professional medical hypnotherapists.
Your first step is probably the biggest one you have to make towards getting your treatment: you have to make the appointment and come to meet your therapist for the first time. Hypnotherapy practitioners are generally thoroughly nice, understanding, kind people: they do not judge or form negative opinions. You will find you have every reason to relax and unwind during your visit.
It is normal to talk about yourself, and your therapist will naturally encourage this while noting your relevant medical history. A really experienced therapist will develop a shrewd idea of the underlying problems behind the symptoms you have presented. Depending on the time allocated in agreement with you, treatment will commence towards the latter part of your first visit.
A series of perhaps four or six visits may be suggested, after which an assessment of progress made between you and your therapist can indicate a future plan.
During your treatments, you will be invited to either lie back on a couch, or in a recliner chair. At no time are you out of control; in fact many people doubt that they have been hypnotised until it is proved to them by the therapist, after which there can be no doubt whatsoever.
Hypnotherapy is a form of communication that lowers your consciousness part way toward the state of sleep while at the same time it raises your subconscious level to the same point: this is the point you pass through unwittingly every time you fall asleep or wake up, except that this time it is controlled and held there by the quiet words of your therapist. While in this delicately yet comfortably balanced state, the therapist can talk through the conscious mind straight into the subconscious mind, so that they are both “in agreement”! (Therefore you will not be “of two minds” about the subject matter after the treatment.)
When your particular visit treatment is concluded, the therapist will gradually bring you back to full consciousness, returning “all your bodily functions back to normal.” a brief discussion period is suggested then to cover any queries you may have, and to arrange your next appointment.
Professional Hypnotherapy organisations encourage their practitioner members to respect the necessary costs involved and to keep the number of visits to a necessary minimum. However, it is a fallacy to think that you are cured the moment you feel better: it’s a bit like the gloss paint on a door ~ you know it is touch dry yet you also know it is still wet underneath and needs more time.
