What Is Touch For Health (THF)?
Touch For Health with Matthew Thie
There are many different branches of professional kinesiology, but Touch For Health (TFH) has a unique place in that it is a system for the general public to use in a self help way to improve their health and well being.
I asked Matthew Thie, M.Ed, president of Touch For Health Education, IKC trainer, TFH instructor, and son of John Thie, to tell me more about it.
TFH has its origins in applied kinesiology. AK practitioners are physicians who are licensed to diagnose, and they use kinesiology in conjunction with a diagnostic system to treat specific conditions. TFH was designed
People can learn it in several different ways. A lot of people pick up the basic TFH book and experimented with it and get good results. Sometimes someone who already knows it teaches them informally in their own home. The other possibility is to go to a formal workshop where the training is more systematic.
In TFH we work with the posture, and with the muscles on the physical level. We relate muscles to energy pathways, so we work on the energy system too. We use different reflex points that affect different energy systems and also different physical systems e,g. the vascular or lymphatic system. We look at how different foods might be affecting people positively or negatively, so we are working on the biochemical level as well. We work on the mental-emotional level too. We look at all of that in the context of what people want in their lives – their positive goals. That way we can holistically look at the whole human being.
In the UK they are developing a professional training but still in the model of TFH. A professional TFH practitioner might see clients in a clinical setting, but instead of treating conditions, the practitioner is still going through a process of education and developing self-awareness in the client. They are assisting people to learn how to take care of themselves. Often those clients will end up taking the TFH workshops in order to implement those techniques in their own lives.
